Jane McGrath Classic - Australia Day 2007

The Jane McGrath Classic...

Jock Athletic, Jane McGrath & the McGrath Foundation would like to say a very BIG thank you to all of you who participated in the inaugural Jane McGrath Classic down on Cronulla Beach on Australia Day.

Our special thanks also go out to:

  • the Cultural Planning & Events Dept of Sutherland Shire Council, particularly Tim Fong and Debbie Abbott, who worked virtually around the clock to make this event happen for us.
  • "Cammo", one of Cronulla's fabulous lifeguards, for his efforts in building our mini Sandhill.
  • Matthew Hayden & Gray Nichols, for kindly donating our first prize and perpetual trophy
  • Runulla Sports Store in Cronulla and Asics, for providing us with their awesome running footwear and apparel.
  • Zink Bar & Café in Cronulla, for their generous donation
  • And of course, our volunteers - we couldn't have done it without you!

The Run event was hotly contested, with over 40 competitors battling it out for 1st and 2nd place in their age category heat to book their place in the Final.

Winner, Scott Murphy - Jane McGrath Classic – Australia Day 2007...Of the 10 finalists, Annaliese McCauley (aged 10) of Cronulla and Lachlan Crawford (aged 6) of Caringbah were pipped at the post by Scotty Murphy of Sutherland, who ran an awesome time of 2:58min to take out overall first place. He walked away with a fantastic prize - a special pink-handled Gray Nichols cricket bat, kindly donated by Matthew Hayden and Gray Nichols, and signed by Glenn & Jane McGrath. Well done Scotty! His name will be the first inscribed on our perpetual trophy!

Overall we had an awesome day and have received a fantastic response to the event. Most importantly, with your help we were able to raise funds for much need breast care nurses. All monies raised by this event will go to The McGrath Foundation. You can also make online donations at www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au.

Plans are already in the pipeline to make it bigger and better next year. Jane is already in training for the Open women's Run Event next year - go Jane!
