Punter inducted to the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame

14th February 2018

Congratulations to one of the Jock Athletic's founding athlete members, and former Australian Cricket Captain Ricky Ponting, who was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame at this year's Allen Border Medal. Ricky trained with Jock Athletic for more than 10 years throughout his career and was one of the fiercest competitors and determined trainers we’ve ever had. Having left school after year 9, Jock uses him as an example of never mistaking lack of education for lack of intelligence. Jock rates Ricky as one of the smartest people he’s worked with. Ricky is an example of what happens when exceptional talent is combined with an unrelenting work ethic and an extraordinary mental and physical toughness - you get an all-time great.

So good to see Gurinder Sandhu doing so well on his return to first class cricket, shining for the Syndey Thunder in the BBL before his successful return to the NSW Scheffield Sheild team, taking 2-22 in the second innings against WA.

It's fari to say 15yo Kai Hammond has had a successful weekend, by first winning the U17  3000m State Title at the NSW Senior Athletics Championships at Homebush last weekend, backing up the next morning to win the U17 SLS Sydney Branch 2km Beach run. This boy is unstoppable.

Emma Blanch also gave a stellar performance in the 3000m walk, taking silver in her age group, following her silver medal in the Open Women's 2000m walk the week before. All this at the age of 15! Well done Em.

Surf Life Saving

Give it up for Zac Keelan, who in his first patrol season as a young Surf Life Saver, was awarded Rescue of the Month by SLS Sydney Branch for his dramatic rescue of a tourist caught in a rip at Wanda Beach. Awesome stuff Zac!

Our Wanda Beach team cleaned up again in the 2km Beach Run at Sydney Branch, with medals to :

David Jones: Gold, 40-45 Masters
Donna Cox: Gold, 50-54 Masters
Lachlan Crawford: Gold U19 Mens
Chloe Gentle: Gold U17 Womens
Kai Hammond: Gold U17 Mens
Jesse Phelps: Bronze U15 Womens

Well done to our entire team for great performances in the sprints and 2km beach run.
