Jock Athletic’s Ali Najem Runs Over 55km at Red Bull Wings for Life
Ali Najem ran for a massive 55.63km before he was caught by the car, during Melbourne's chapter of the Red Bull Wings for Life World Run. He was caught by the chasing car after 3 hours and 53 minutes, having lead the Melbourne pack for the majority of the race. Ali came 2nd in Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) and was the last Australian national to get caught by the car, and came in 35th in the world. This shows what an incredible effort this was, considering Ali's age and the fact that he has only recently completed his first marathon. I can't wait to see where this leads him to next.
Ali was admirably supported by fellow athlete Jesse Thus. Normally a sprinter, Jesse flew down to Melbourne with Ali to complete in the race, hoping to run slightly further than his favoured 90-100m sprints. Jesse ran a creditable 15.37km before being caught - not a bad effort for a sprinter-turned-distance runner!
Well done Ali and Jesse - there was a massive buzz about this race leading in to and the morning after and you've got a few of us considering running next year!
